NAGAS-North American Graduate Art Survey:
January 18th - February 16th, 2011
Opening Reception: January 21st, 7pm
The University of Minnesota Department of Art is hosting its third bi-ennial North American Graduate Art Survey, a juried international exhibition of North American graduate student work. The exhibition will be open to all media and to all current MFA candidates in Canada, Mexico and the United States. NAGAS, organized solely by graduate students for graduate students, will explore a diverse range of styles and points of view, representing the different cultures and backgrounds of emerging artists throughout North America.
NAGAS seeks to promote awareness of artwork being produced in graduate programs throughout North America. Our event not only promotes graduate art students and their professional goals, but also offers opportunities for the University of Minnesota community to access art outside of our area.
The exhibition will be on display in the Katherine E. Nash Gallery in the Regis Center for Art, located in the University of Minnesota Arts Quarter. With its urban location, The Regis Center forArt is a hub of cultural and social activity. Openings at the Katherine E. Nash gallery draw large crowds that include students, faculty, alumni, and professionals in the field, as well as community members. Exhibitions offer an opportunity for critical dialogue and social interaction among those within the greater metropolitan art community.
The Katherine E. Nash Gallery was created in the 1970s by founder Katherine E. Nash, a former faculty member at the University of Minnesota. The gallery’s beautiful 4,900 square foot exhibition space has facilitated shows from both nationally, and locally renowned artists.
The Katherine E. Nash Gallery facilitates numerous artistic and cultural events, and is an integral part of the artistic community at the University of Minnesota. For more information about the Katherine E. Nash Gallery please visit nash.umn.edu.
