Praxis/Practice at the Nash

Praxis: the momentum of the actions specific to the discipline deepens the body of knowledge within the discipline.

Practice: practicing, engaging, exchanging, connecting, interconnecting,  branching out, branching in—practicing in order to refine vision.

The Katherine E. Nash Gallery presents Praxis/Practice, a collaborative exhibition featuring work by students from the graduate programs at the University of Minnesota’s Department of Art and College of Design and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD). The exhibition runs from November 14 through December 15, 2006. A public reception is scheduled for Friday, December 1, from 6:00-8:30 p.m.

Gallery Hours

Tuesday & Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursday, Friday & Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This is a time of change—one of increasing interconnectedness between the arts disciplines. Contemporary art and design research is broad and diverse, spanning creative production, applied research, theoretical research—at times, all three at once. In Praxis/Practice diverse graduate research will be exhibited side by side—some based around creative work, some around applied research, some around theoretical inquiry.

Areas of research focus include: Apparel, Architecture, Ceramics, Design Communication, Interior Design, Interactive Media, Landscape Architecture, Painting and Sculpture.

These collaborative exhibitions seek to make the creative process of artists and designers more visible to each other and to the broader community. It is expected that new dialogues will emerge on how artists and designers work, inspiring students and art and design practitioners to embark on future work and collaborations that open the doors to new knowledge and practice.
