Retrospectives: Baldwin and Hallman
The University of Minnesota celebrates two Department of Art faculty members with retrospectives of their work at the Katherine E. Nash Gallery. Retrospectives: Baldwin and Hallman opens October 9 and runs through November 8, 2007. A public reception is scheduled for Friday, October 12, from 6-8:30 pm
The Katherine E. Nash Gallery is located in the University’s Regis Center for Art, 501 21st Avenue South, Minneapolis, on the U of M’s West Bank Campus. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 am – 7 pm. All events are free and open to the general public. Parking is available in the 21st Avenue Ramp.
In conjunction with the exhibition, two gallery talks have been scheduled with each artist speaking on his work: Guy Baldwin, Tuesday, October 16; and Gary Hallman, Thursday, October 18. Both gallery talks are at noon in the Nash Gallery.
A man who has worked in several arts media, Guy Baldwin is most recognized for his kinetic sculpture. As a kinetic artist, Baldwin raises the ante on science by asking whether imaginative play, and mystery count among those forces that determine cause and effect.
His mechanical sculptures are playful and inevitably draw in the viewer’s curiosity.
Gary Hallman’s tastes and predilections are catholic. His talent brings innovation and deft handling to a range of subjects and moods.
